In The Country Garden & Gifts
In The Country Garden & Gifts was begun in 1998 by the mother and son team, Sue and Josh Spece. In The Country is a destination specialty nursery for gardeners who want something they won't find at conventional garden centers. We offer around 300 hosta varieties, with an emphasis on new and uncommon varieties. To complement the hostas, we are offering an increasing selection of distinct shade perennials. We carry a full range of water plants and pond supplies. Our latest addiction is succulents, and we grow the largest selection of succulents in Eastern Iowa. You will also find dwarf conifers, rock garden plants, and a few odds and ends. The gift shop is full of unique garden art, garden themed gifts, fairy garden items, papercrete troughs, and handcrafted decor. In The Country often hosts workshops and special events throughout the year. Our Hosta & Dessert Social is an annual event held every June that draws hosta-holics from across the state. Our booth is located just north of Court Avenue on 4th Street, Des Moines. We also sell at the Valley Junction Farmer's Market held Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Our booth is across the street from the Community Center on 5th Street, West Des Moines. We sell hostas and daylilies at 2 area Farmer's Markets. Lincoln View Farm is located in rural Boone county, adjacent to the old Lincoln Highway. We will have a ‘Farm Shop’ in the greenhouse this year. It will offer vintage farm pieces, repurposed 'junk', and a number of other cool garden related items! The shop is scheduled to open May 31st.
